Vinha Da Manta is located in the centre of Portugal, on the edge of Nature Park “Serra da Estrela”, in the province called Beira Interior. We are about 35 km from the Spanish border and more or less 140 from the coast. This part of Portugal in terms of tourism is still an unexplored area and there is much to discover.

From Porto
: From the airport follow first the A44 or A4 to Porto till you see the A1 (toll road) towards Lisbon . Follow this until the exit Aveiro/Viseu to the A25. Take the direction to Viseu and after Viseu the direction to Guarda. Leave the motorway at junction 28, follow signs IP5/Porto de Carne/Sobral da Serra. Take exit Transito local/Porte de Carne to the N16. Follow this road, take the roundabout almost straight (second exit) then follow about 3km and then turn to the right to Faia and drive down into the valley. At the roundabout turn left into the village of Faia (3th exit). Continue straight through the narrow streets of the ancient village, the road winds to the right and then left (igreja sagrada familia). At the end of the village begins a new tarmac road. Don`t go left up but straight! Follow this road up until you’re on top of the hill and the road curves to the left, follow the road and after 500 meters (50 meters after the white water basin) on your left (almost straight up) is a dirt track (300 meters) that leads to our estate.
From Lisbon
: From the airport follow the motorway A1 direction Porto until the exit of Torres Novas, Castelo Branco and Abrantes. Then follow the A23 to Guarda, exit 35. Up the exit, at the roundabout, go to your left into Guarda. Follow the signs Hospital, to the roundabout with the modern image in the shape of the letter G. On the roundabout to the right, second exit. From there, follow the signs for Vale do Mondego. Drive through the villages Cubo, Prado and Chaos, where you will see the lake on your left. Then take at the end of Chaos just before a big turn to the right, the exit to Pero Soares, Mizarella on the left. You have the lake on your left till the dam.  Continue the road , towards Vila Soeiro, leaving the dam on your left. After Pero Soares, after the cemetery, you get a sharp bend to the left, In that bend, take the turn to the right, in the new asphalt country road. After 800 meters, after going up reasonable steep, there is a dirt road to the right. This is the entrance to Vinha da Manta. It only takes 300 meters to get to our estate.
From Salamanca, Spain (also if you will be arriving by car from England) : Cross the border at Vila Formosa on the A23 and drive to Guarda. Take the A23 towards Castelo Branco and turn right at the first exit, number 35. Up the exit to your right, first exit on the roundabout, and follow the signs Guarda centro/Hospital, to the roundabout with the modern image in the shape of the letter G. Continue, towards Pero Soares, Vila Soe the road leaving the dam on your left.

They organise walks as well and I went on one through the Montego Valley. Hard work through the bushes going mostly down hill in 35 degrees but with great views and a sense of adventure! The walk took a good couple of hours and a bit and at the end we were met by volunteers from the camp who brought us a lovely little picnic by the river. We all had a well deserved swim and got back to camp in the afternoon.
The possible down side about Vinha da Manta is that if you don't want nature every day and need a little culture and a shop or two, there isn't much to see. Our best outing was Viseu which is an hour away. Great cathedral and castle and and plenty of both silly and good shops. Guarda, nearest to the camp site is just about ok and has a good cathedral but otherwise nothing much. The old bit of town is small and the surrounding concrete mess is not so great. Porto is 2 hours away and we loved it. Stunning buildings and packed with hipsters and art and great food. Make a day of it ( if not two!).
If you are able to really relax and read and do nothing you will be perfectly fine at Vinha da Manta. It is a truly special place that will stay with us forever. It feels like family to us and the kids have expressed deep wishes of wanting to go back.
    Highly recommended . More

Menno and Jacqueline are very nice hosts that are warm, friendly,... read more and know how to cook! You feel part of the family the moment you enter their house.

We had a lodge (we are not supposed to say the 'T' word) with four adults. It is a beautiful lodge, with a kitchen block, a sleeping area (nicely separated two double beds in our case) and a nice veranda and sitting area. We even had our own little 'pool' with fresh running cold water! Super for an early morning dive!

The pool is very beautiful. All natural with many lilies in the water and frogs on their leaves.

The breakfast is very nice. Perfect fresh bread and hand made jams. Fresh juice, yoghurt with stuff and local cheese.

The diner (Menno makes a delicious dinner 3 times a week) is restaurant class. All fresh from their garden (if possible) and create combinations. You eat with all the guests together in a very nice atmosphere.

We did quite some hikes from Damanta. Menno knows where to go and even guided us on a walk to the river. The region is very pretty and has lots of opportunities to hike and swim!

I would recommend this for everybody who likes nature, friendly people and a holiday away from the crowds.

Meno cooked some amazing food the following night, I tasted the most amazing chicken, lavender and peach dish complemented by stunning roasted carrots, cauliflower rice, and potatoes. It was again amazing food overlooking an amazing setting with great company. All guests ate together and it was such a lovely evening. I only stayed for a few days but incredibly sad to having had to leave. I miss the place already. We booked to return next year before we left, that's how much we loved it. Can't wait to return. Thank you for a lovely few days. More
